Our Commitment

The Montessori institutions, which are :

The "Toddlers' Communities"

Structures welcoming children from the insured walk to 3 years old (Nursery school)

The "Children's Houses"

Structures for children from 3 to 6 years old (Preschool)

"Montessori Elementary Schools"

Structures for children from 6 to 12 years old (Elementary school)

Commit to the following criteria:

The number of educators for the age level of the group of children in their care is as follows:

  • Toddlers' Community: the educator can be helped by one or two assistants, depending on the number of children (1 adult for 8 children)

  • Children's House : the educator can be helped by an assistant.

  • Elementary school : the educator can lead the group, without further assistance.

This criterion promotes the development of independence in the child. The role of the educator is to guide the children in their best interests and to prepare the environment for that purpose.

Each group of children must consist of:

  • At the Toddlers' Community: 15 to 20 children from walking to 3 years old.

  • At the Children's House : 28 to 35 children from 3 to 6 years old.

  • At the Elementary School : 30 to 35 children from 6 to 12 years old.

The mixing of ages is intended to stimulate a normal development of social behavior that will promote collaboration, exchange and emulation within the group.

At La Chrysalide, we focus on human-sized classes. Thus, we will respect a maximum number of :

  • 18 children in the toddlers' community

  • 32 children at the children's house

  • 32 children at the elementary school

The equipment

The Montessori equipment, as a whole, constitutes aids to the development of the child. Its main function is to allow the child to explore the world, to grasp it and to build himself. It is imperative that it be complete.

"Only the mind of the child can direct human progress and perhaps even guide it to a high form of civilization."

The concept of "prepared environment" is a complex concept in Montessori education. Montessori materials are not the whole of the "prepared environment". However, it is an important part of it. The educator and the group of children are also part of the prepared environment.

Montessori's theory needs time to be understood. It is a new conception of education and a different view of the child and its development. The understanding matures over the years through practice and reflection by everyone.

Independent work time

It is imperative that the children have an independent activity time (individual or group for older children) for two and a half to three hours each morning and afternoon. This allows the respect of the work rhythm, the possibility of free choice of the activity and the concentration of the child in his activity.

Extra-majors' activities, such as lessons given by specialists, should remain in the minority and/or be reserved for "extra-curricular" hours.

Continuous training

The establishment undertakes to develop the skills of its staff in a forward-looking manner in accordance with the establishment's project, particularly in the field of Montessori pedagogy.
